The Knights of Columbus Present: COR As part of the beautiful Sermon on the Mount, Jesus encourages us to be heavenly minded and says: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth but store up treasures in heaven … For where your heart will be there will be your treasure!” Through the Knights of Columbus, Saints Simon and Jude parish is beginning a new initiative for men. Looking at our culture it is clear that we need men who are strong husbands and fathers. The latest statistics suggest that of men between the ages of 26 to 45 one-third have left the faith outright and out of the remaining two-thirds some forty percent are described as cultural Catholics who do not go to Mass or otherwise practice the faith. While many men are faithful Catholics they lack intensity or energy for a deep relationship with the Lord. Most men are focused on their jobs, some are worried about finances or other temporal concerns. Apart from a deep faith life they become isolated and are easy targets for falling into pornography and other sins that corrupt the mind and deaden Godly influence. Their hearts are not focused on heavenly things but on the world and its temptations to wealth, pleasure and self-absorption. What our culture needs is courageous men willing to witness to Jesus Christ and the power of the Gospel. To assist to meet this need, SSJ is inviting all men of the parish to participate in COR. Cor is Latin for heart. It is the root of the word courage. We will gather for a monthly meeting lasting an hour to an hour and a half. It will be a time of fellowship with other men who are seeking to go deeper with the Lord. We’ll enjoy refreshments, watch a brief video and share our faith. The meetings will take place on the fourth Saturday of each month in the Meehan Center immediately after the 9 o’clock Mas. Please plan on attending the first meeting on Saturday, January 25th. Let’s center our lives and our friendships on Jesus. Truly, where your heart is, there will be your treasure. Let’s invest our lives in the greatest treasure, the way, the will and the work of God!
